The loss of personal photos, business documents, customer databases etc. can be devastating but, with a little bit of forethought and effort, is easily preventable. Cloud based services such as iCloud, One Drive, DropBox etc. provide a space for you to safely store important files, mitigating the risk of loss due to something as simple (and common) as a hard disk failure. Alternatively, using inbuilt utilities such as Time Machine (for macOS users) or other synchronization tools which write to an external drive, ensures a backup of all your files is available in case of failure.<\/p>\n<p>The general rule for backups is that data should exist in three locations, i.e. on the device, on a local backup and on a remote backup (kept off site), but if you can manage two out of three that&#8217;s certainly a step in the right direction.
